| Pope John got a jump start on the 2007 scholastic softball season as senior
right hander Sarah Olsen tossed a no-hitter to propel the Lady Lions to a 10-0 rout of St. Mary/Rutherford in the
opening ropund of the All-Groups Challenge contested in Park Ridge on Sunday. Olsen fanned nine and did not issue
a walk but eight miscues by her teammates ended her dreams of a perfect game. Rachel Senatore, a sophomore left
fielder, had a pair of hits in plating three runs. Megan Prettyman, a junior third sacker, knocked in two runs
and Jillian Black picked up an RBI. |
| Frank Canning, who began his 10th campaign at the helm, guided the Lady
Lions to a 17-8 record last year and a fourth place finish in the SCIL. His roster includes is young but includes
veterans Dina Inez, another senior hurler, joined by juniors Jill Black and Michelle Kent along with sophomores
Lauren Hurley and Amanda Kent. |
| Jefferson, which went 19-5, is coached by Ed Levens who is entering his
27th season. Five seniors, Liz Ashmann, Cori Becker, Teresa Espopsito, Jess Rozoczak and Ali Simons along with
juniors Jade Atoria, Brittany Beckman, Becky Furman, Shannon Harrington and Alysa Rowan provide the experience
that will keep the Lady Falcons in contention for another title. |
| Sparta posted a 15-8 and returns senior veterans Virginia Buechel, Jaime
Cresbaugh, Dani Koert, Tara Perez, Casey Roselle and Baylea Sperling. Add juniors Melissa Sullivan and Raleigh
Sperring plus sophomores Courtney Bailey and Sarah Fletcher and coach Rick Poots eighth Lady Sparta should be tough
to beat. |
| Kittatinny went 18-4 a year ago for coach Heather Mate who is now in her
fourth year at the helm. Seniors Alyssa Peera and Abby Ralph are joined by juniors Franny Gelly, Melissa LaCouture
and Sara Stocklinsji along with sophomore Kate Muller. |
| Ken Chlodnicki returns for his third season at Wallkill Valley after finishing
19-5 in 2006. Jackie Cuomo, Stacey Kerstner, Amanda Nann and Srephanie Romero plus juniors Selena Anor, Kara Buda,
Brittany Speroni and Abby Tilton make the Lady Rangers a leading contender for the SCIL crown. |
| Newton should improve on it 7-18 record of last season with a cast of veterans
that includes seniors Ashley Gresik, Heather Harold, Heather Maguire, Erica Miller, Brooke Myers, Nicole Morelli,
and Stephanie Nunziato. |
| High Point went 13-10 and could be improved with senior Morgan Bell returning
on the mound. Her supporting cast includes classmates Amanda Bellis, Michelle Morongeli and Mikayla Wingle along
with juniors Lauren Fasano and Becky Penhaker as well as sophomore Jessica Fedor. |
| Lenape Valley looks to bounce back from the Lady Patriots worst season (3-18)
and will look to a trio of seniors, Amanda Creamer, Samantha Markferding and Shannon O'Brien, to lead the comeback.
Three talented sophomores who will also help are Alli Ciuccheti, Lisa Duckles and Steffanie Secola. |

five senior returnees in Christine Couser, Melissa LaCour, Jerrica Lavooy, Amanda Malkin and Chelsea Wagner along
